I am going to talk about a science fiction(科幻片) film about the environmental crisis. It’s called The Day After Tomorrow. I watched this movie in 2012 when some people had claimed it was to be the last day of earth. To experience the last day, I watched this movie with my friends.

There’s a scientist in the story who studies the ways that weather patterns(气象) changed in the past. He tries to save the world from the effects of global warming while also trying to save his son who is in New York City as part of a scholastic(学术的) competition. Unfortunately, the city is overwhelmed(吞噬) by the coldness of the new Ice Age. A real disaster occurs in both the US and Europe.

A film that made me think a lot, must be the Chinese drama Dying to Survive. I watched it in 2018 when it was first released. From the name, you might already have a rough(大致的) idea about the story. Yes, it’s about a tough journey between dying and surviving.

The film is based on the real-life story of Lu Yong, a textile trader who was diagnosed with leukemia. He spent a large sum of money on official medication and discovered there was an alternative in India which was much cheaper than that in China. He went on to save more than 1, 000 patients by bringing the drug into China. But he was arrested in 2014, being accused of(指控) selling fake drugs. Hundreds of leukemia survivors then petitioned(请愿) for his release, and he was ultimately freed without penalty(罚款) for he had never personally profited(获利) from the drug sales.

Special effects allow the director to reveal more of the story he wants to tell. Let's use one of the most popular science fiction films in recent years, Interstellar, as an example. The film allowed the audience to personally feel the universe's expanse and mystery through the application of special effects, and some abstract scientific concepts also become easy to understand in the actors' interpretation. Even the existence of a dreaded black hole is presented in front of the audience in the most realistic sense. The use of special effects increases the audience's interest and allows the filmmakers to better tell their story.
