Last year I volunteered in a Sustainable Forum. The Forum was held in Suburban Beijing, so every day I had to take a two-hour subway ride to get there. I decided to volunteer in this Forum because I was interested in the theme of it as the Forum focused on China’s implementation of the 2030 UN Agenda for Sustainable Development. Or in other words, the Forum in essence was a platform for China to show the world its efforts and accomplishments in fulfilling its promises of green development.

Honestly, as an inexperienced volunteer, I had messed up with things several times. For instance, I once carelessly typed the wrong passport number on the computer, yet thanks to my teammates, all the information was corrected after the double check. A volunteering experience I’ve had is helping my school clean up the dormitories of the new graduates.

You know, the COVID-19 has been a great hassle for the newly graduated students as they are not allowed to get into their dorms on campus to fetch up everything they have left since the outbreak of the virus. So, my school made a decision to give them a hand by letting just a few volunteers pack up their personal belongings.

I think modern technologies have done such a wonderful thing of bringing together people from all walks of life and from all parts of the world to help those in need. But now modern information-sharing technologies have enabled people to reach far beyond their national border to pinpoint those in urgent need of help. Moreover, by sharing their voluntary experience online through immersive videos and pictures, more and more young people are motivated to join them.
