Describe an item on which you spent more than expected

You should say:

What it is

How much you spent on it

Why you bought it

And explain why you think you spent more than expected

雅思口语范文如下:

I don’t really like to purchase any expensive item unless I have a very valid reason to do so. Of course, people would choose to define expensive differently, but I am not really debating here as to what really should be considered as expensive and what shouldn’t be. Instead, I could talk about an item that I spent more than expected.

It is a digital camera that cost me around 3000 yuan, while my budget then was only 2000 yuan. The compact camera is about 6 inches in length and 4 inches in width. Having a beautiful silver color, this camera has a high picture resolution(高像素). Unlike old-style film cameras, my digital camera can capture and record images of any kinds of objects around us, using digital technology. In other words, they store photographs not as patterns of darkness and light, but as long strings of numbers.

Part 3

1.Do you often buy more than you expected?

Yes, most of the time I buy more than planned. You know, usually I planned to have a window shopping but actually I will buy a lot when I meet the favorite. This happens especially frequently when I go out to buy clothes. For example, I may leave the house thinking of buying a T-shirt, but then I would come back with shoes and pants as well. But if it’s groceries, I usually only get what’s on the list. So it kinda also depends on what’s the store I visit, I suppose.

2.Do you think it is important to save money? Why?

Yeah, definitely. Actually, I think it’s very unwise to use up all the money and leave the bank balance zero. You see, saving allows you to enjoy greater security in your life. If you have cash set aside for emergencies, you have a fallback should something unexpected happen. And, if you have savings set aside for discretionary expenses, you may be able to take risks or try new things. For example, what if you encounter some emergencies? Say, you have a car accident and need to pay a large hospital bill. Without any saving, you’d be put in a very difficult situation.
