Last weekend, my aunt and her husband went for a business trip, thus leaving their five-year-old son unattended(无人照看). They asked me to do a favor and take care of him for that weekend.

As his sister, I felt obliged to(有义务……) help out. Besides that, I kind of liked the feeling of being trusted by a child’s parents. But I also felt nervous since I was a rookie at(……的新手) babysitting and I was kinda worried if I messed it up.

Moreover, my cousin was really mischievous, I was afraid that he would smash valuable things around the home, and that I might lose him if I took him outside to play. Hence I searched the Internet and came up with many smart ways to draw his attention. For example, I took him to his favorite toy store, where he could stay focused on the toy trains all day. 1.How can parents encourage children to do something difficult?

For one thing, parents should at least show 100% trust for their children's decisions. Sometimes parents are inclined to be over-anxious about security and totally block them from getting in touch with the outside world, which could hinder their growth in confidence. For another, it’s a wise choice to let kids finish some DIY kits. The item itself is the best reward for them. Also parents could turn to their kids for advice and assign some basic tasks whose difficulty is gradually increased.

2.What kinds of things do children usually feel very hard to do?

Well, off the top of my head, some exhausting labor work. It may seem cruel to see a 4-year-old trying to lift heavy loads like chairs or suitcases, since their physical strength hasn’t developed to the full extent. I sometimes wonder why kids always envy the life of grown-ups, and maybe the answer is, adults do enjoy more freedom. If kids try to work out their creative ideas, things may get tough since their parents may doubt it or worry about their safety. Therefore, anything that might challenge parents’ common sense will lay pressure on them.
