I wanna talk about a backpack I gave to an online friend at our first meeting last summer. So we became friends when I was a college student. His name was Rick, from Canada. To be honest, I initially made friends with him simply because I wanted to practice my oral English. I never imagined that we could become genuine friends later on.
We shared some interesting cultural differences with each other while chatting. Through him, I saw a world that operated completely different from the one I live in. I got a different perspective of life by talking to him. You know, to challenge the old routines in the culture, to pursue sexual equality, to treat people that are different from me with respect, and to celebrate diversity. Of course, I also showed him how magical Daoism(道家学说) was! And he was intrigued by Chinese medicine. Well, I think generally people exchange gifts on special occasions, such as birthdays, or some important cultural events, such as the New Year. At these events, gifts would certainly light up the atmosphere, and make people feel more excited and tune to the festival mood. Of course, there are also situations when people give gifts simply to show kindness or good manners. For example, when young couples have their first date, they usually would bring gifts for each other. Well, anyway, that’s pretty much the gift culture in my country. I’m sure it can be different in other places of the world.

3. Is it hard to choose a gift?
Not really. Choosing a gift is not something really hard, but it’s quite difficult to choose a perfect gift. We don’t even know what we want for ourselves until we are actually in the situation in which we are faced with making a purchase or trying out something new. 4. Will people feel happy when receiving an expensive gift?
Well, I think different people may have different attitudes towards receiving expensive gifts. Some people would feel happy or excited when receiving an expensive gift, but some people would feel flattered or a little bit guilty since they think that these expensive gifts are extravagant or unexpected, and they don’t think they have something equivalent to give back as well and this probably makes them feel uncomfortable.
