As far as I'm concerned, Gangnam Style was all the rage during my high school period with more than 270 million hits of the official MV on YouTube. Released (发布、发行) in July 15, 2012, Gangnam Style is named after Gangnam, a district of Seoul, South Korea. Gangnam means “south of the river”–in this case, south of the Han river. Gangnam is also one of the richest and most glamorous(令人向往的) places in Seoul. The song details the singer’s search for a woman who’s his type , (and why he himself is a good catch) and the chorus boasts of (号称) his association with a luxurious, fashionable Gangnam lifestyle. Importantly, the song and video mocks Gangnam District, the capital of Seoul, South Korea, where the citizens blindly pursued (盲目追求) the trend, kept spending and enjoying themselves, and satirized (讥讽) the extravagant and decadent life (奢靡生活) of the rich Koreans.
