To spend the spare time, many people are prone to watch TV due to its attractive visual and audio pattern, which undermines the creativity and language capacity in many peoples’ eyes. Unlike TV programs, which do not require much imagination since they have presented all pictures, books offer individuals an opportunity to create the unique pictures which reflect their own thought.The authoritative and professional feature is what differentiates the books which can enhance the readers’ writing skills by learning more professional language expressions, from TV sets whose content is limited because it is supposed to cater for all audiences.

Despite the restriction of their content, TV programs are profitable for development of language skills to some extent. People can learn the pronunciations while watching TV, so that they are likely to link the sound, pictures and words thereby remembering the correct expression more easily. However, reading books are of much greater significance when it comes to the formal academic study， which needs more technical literacy and profound expression.

My view is that imagination and language skills cannot be cultivated only by reading books, but watching TV, while to be really good at practicing the critical thinking and mastering a language, books are assured of greater value.
