Although many historical museums and places of interest have universal appeal to tourists, they rarely attract attention of local people. This essay will try to find out the reason behind this phenomenon and provide moderate proposals.

One possible reason why local residents show no interest in historical sites in their hometown is that they believe they have great knowledge about the local history and there is no need to sacrifice their leisure time for such a visit. Therefore, instead of visiting museums, they tend to go to movie theaters or join sports clubs where they can relax and refresh themselves. Also, nowadays it is common that museums charge admission andeven raise fees in order to make up for the cost of routine maintenance and upgrade service. Rather than paying for visiting these historical sites, people would choose free parks or public squares.

Conversely，some locals’ wonderful wish of visiting nearby scenery might be handicapped by their limited financial budget.For example，Beijing is noted for the Great Wall, The National Palace Museum and many other historical sites. Nonetheless，numerous native people fail to feel the wonder, beauty or amusing workmanship on site with their own eyes.
