Nowadays, there is much disagreement over the solution to the environmental problems caused by the technological development. Some people suggest that to solve the problems, people should be willing to accept the simpler life, while other people hold the belief that it is the technology that can solve the problems. I will discuss both point of views before giving my own opinion.

People who support the former point of view put forward the technological progress is definitely the catalyst to/factor that cause the recent environmental problems. For example, the growing number of vehicles/cars on the road emits/gives off a large amount of green house gases, which seriously woren the air quality. To choose a simpler way of life means a reduction on the use of technological products,hence the falling negative impact on environment. If residents choose environmentally friendly mode of transportation like cycling and public transport, the severe air pollution will be relieved to a great extent.

There is no doubt that modern technology has caused a variety of environmental issues, both in cities and towns. Ironically, I feel that technology can address some of these problems but at the same time, personal effort is a must.

Theoretically, addressing some environmental issues by adopting simple lifestyles is sensible. According to the statistics, during the last 100 years, the earth' s surface temperature has risen dramatically because of human activities. Therefore, some people feel that the changes in our lifestyles can reverse this worrying trend. For example, the growing number of vehicles on the road emits a large quantity of green house gases, such as carbon dioxide, which will worsen the air quality. If residents chose other modes of transport, like buses or subways, this serious condition would be alleviated to a large extent However, in my opinion, this policy would be very unpopular with some people, especially those living in the suburb, who do need to travel on roads.
