The two bar charts compare the proportions of boys and girls who achieved high grades in five subjects.

Overall, it can be seen that the percentage of boys getting top grades experienced an upward trend in humanities and arts. In 1996, about only 20% and 10% of boys obtained high grades in humanities and arts, and these two proportions almost doubled in 2002 respectively. As for mathematics and science, the figures decreased significantly. The percentage of male students who performed well in science decreased considerably, standing at 18% in 2000. It is interesting to note that there was no change in the percentages of languages(around 22%).
