In the past few decades, there has been a trend that an increasing number of young people choose to remain single or live away from hometown establishing a nuclear family. From my perspective, this can be attributed to the development of economy, the popularity of tertiary education, as well as the change of lifestyle.

In the past, it was quite common for several generations to live in an extended family, which could save family expenditure and especially be beneficial for women who could not support themselves due to the lack of education and further working skills. However, with the living standards being raised, it is not necessary for people to live under the same roof, considering that more people can afford their daily life as a result of the development of economy and many of them may attach more importance to job promotion. This is especially true for females who could become professionals in their field, when they have the access to tertiary education. As a result, they may obtain greater achievement from their career than their counterparts who tend to devote their whole life to family chores.

With the factors above being considered, it is understandable that our generation start a new lifestyle, which means the high mobility of population. Take China， for example, quite many young people, be graduates or famers, choose to migrate ending up with settling down in big cities. Consequently, this contributes to the fact that ageing parents may be faced with separation， with their children, partly because the elder are usually reluctant to leave hometown that they are familiar with, and partly because the high living cost in big cities, including the skyrocketing house prices.

With the advent of this trend, many problems have arisen. To begin with, for those who remain single, they may be overwhelmed by the sense of loneliness when achieving much in career. In addition, the nuclear family may be confronted with the imbalance of life and work, such as taking good care of children. Another problem associated with this lifestyle is that the elder who still remain in hometown may be lonely due to the lack of accompany, even though they could live well with their children's financial support. To be worse, this may lead to some serious mental disorders, such as anxiety and depression.

In conclusion, due to the development of society, especially the availability of higher education, remaining single or establishing a nuclear family has evolved into a new lifestyle. However, the problems associated with it call our attention.
