Big data tells us that some resources like oil and fresh water will be exhausted in a few decades if we continue consuming them in the way we do now. Thus, we need to explore the deep reasons and work out effective solutions to curb this trend.

First of all,focus on economic development seems to be the culprit behind the overconsumption of resources. Looking around our cities, old houses have been demolished to make room for new skyscrapers, which can accommodate numerous offices, including the headquaters of the top 500 multinationals. All the new facilities and construction itself need much more power and water and energy-devouring equipment.
