Because of the physical differences, women in a large number of countries are privileged to be given a certain period of time for recuperation after delivery. From my point of view, this policy can bring beneficial effects in many ways.

It is true that women who are granted with pregnancy leave can have time at their own proposal to recharge and recover strength. The rapidly developing society has witnessed the amount of day-to-day expenses shoot up and working adults need to work harder than ever to earn their bread to afford food and other services. Therefore, workplace tends to become even more a competitive arena with enormous pressure and employees are prone to have disordered lives. Nonetheless, pregnancy leave makes it possible for women not to be bothered by heavy workload and workplace pressure in the time period when they particularly need a break. They can thus make the optimal use of this period of time and finally reintegrate into their work with a better state of mind and improved confidence. This policy is particularly rewarding in some professions where females play an important role such as nursing and service industry.

Inarguably, newborns’ need for feeding necessitates the company of mothers. It is well-known that breastfeeding provides better nutrition than any infant formula. Also, physical touch like holding babies in arms increases a sense of security as well as intimacy, as infants are familiar with mothers’ smell. This is very crucial for babies’ emotional development.
