2016年5月19日雅思写作范文：In many countries, women are able to join the armed forces now on the equal basis to men. However, some people think only men should be members of the army, navy and Air Force. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Nowadays, it is no longer rare to see females occupy certain positions in an army. In my opinion, men should still take up a significant proportion of the army, while recruitment of women is completely acceptable as long as they satisfy the requirements for their desired posts.

My first argument is based on the change of the nature of the armed forces. There are fewer wars, which almost all agree that only stronly-built, tough and aggressive men can be involved in. In today’s relatively peaceful environment, defense counts more than confrontation. A strong national defense relies to a great extent on sophisticated weapons and technology, which opens the door to both men and women, for most females receive the same education as men and perform no worse than men intellectually. This can be well illustrated by many excellent women pilots in the air force.

When it comes to the issue about whether the army should be only accessible to males, some people may argue that females should not be allowed to join the military, but I cannot agree with this opinion.

Admittedly, women have some weakness if they really intend to be a part of the army. It is acknowledged that men are more physically powerful than women, which allows men to take some heavy work. If women really become members of the military, they may not be accustomed to some exercise and training that exhaust people easily, such as running in a long distance every day. Nevertheless, that does not necessarily deny the necessity of joining the army for women.
