There are quite a few underdeveloped nations whose people are still suffering from starvation, disease and poor sheltering. This situation apparently calls for international aid but meanwhile some people doubt the effectiveness of aid in the monetary form.

Some people assert it is a moral obligation for developed countries to help those in a disadvantaged position. Actually, such claim is coercion in terms of ethics, against the essence of philanthropy. In my opinion, any act of kindness should be based on one’s ability and willingness to help. And the decision of providing aid to a country involves more complicated factors such as how to help and to what extent to help. Even the simplest form of pure financial aid cannot be generously granted, because it has to be allocated from the taxpayers’ contribution. That is to say, a government has no right to handle its fund freely without respecting its own people’s true wish. Luckily, there are 。。。。。余下范文省略！

In this age of globalization, nations are closely bonded than ever before. So it is quite common for rich countries to give international aid to the more impoverished ones. Generally, I think that it is the right thing to do and that the aid can take different forms besides capital.

People who are concerned the fact that financial support might not go to the poor would argue that the poorest nations are typically badly governed, where corruption,official incompetence, and failure to protect basic property rights are capable of rendering the aid money not just useless but harmful. This could be a problem. However, the point here is not that we should be skeptical of the concept of international aid itself but that the way we implement it need be carefully designed, and different types of foreign assistance should be adopted accordingly.
