范文1:

Space tourism, as it is known, has gradually gained popularity in recent years, particularly in those developed western countries. This essay is trying to discuss both the advantages and drawbacks of this newly established industry.

Advocates claim that countries can benefit greatly from developing space travel and related industry. For example, in many emerging countries, some well-known satellites bases, together with unique astronomy museums and advanced space facilities, attract thousands of tourists every year. Taking full advantage of these special programs and combining the local tourism resources will boost local economy significantly. Besides, part of the revenues from space tourism can be used for further development of astronomical industry, which can ease the burden of local government budget. Also, through these marvellous travel experiences, more people can get a thorough understanding of the significance and superiority of space programs, therefore contributing more to this industry.

However, there are still several factors that hurdle this development. First, the expensive cost of travelling makes space travel still a privilege only for rich people while the majority of ordinary citizens cannot afford. This is particularly true in those backward economies where food, education and healthcare are still in great shortage, therefore space tourism is never supposed to be the priority of the governments. Moreover, life safety hazards are always there and at the current stage it seems there is no absolute solution to the risk avoidance. Also, tourists travelling in space must be physically strong enough to tolerate huge noise, tremendous vibration when the rockets take off and long time of exposure to strong radiation and other abnormal conditions like loss of weight during the flight. Because of these, many people believe that there is such a long way to go before all this obstacles can be removed that they are not optimistic about the future of space travel going commercial.

In my point of view, there is no denying problems still exist while space tourism is gaining its momentum, but with the rapid development of space technology and improvement of human's intelligence in such an era when technological miracles occur every day, we have every reason to believe that the day when space travel is just one of the many options for us to explore the world is just around corner.
