As a mounting amount of news report school bullying and interpersonal problems met by young people with university degrees, I firmly believe that helping students develop good behavior is no less significant than academic learning.

According to definition, education is the processs of facilitating learning, or the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values, beliefs and habits. Apparently, normal academic learning is only part of education. However, over the past decades, its importance has been overstated due to the exam-oriented system, which aims to select students based on quantifiable criteria. When all efforts and time are channeled to meet this aim, behavior problems would arise among students either from pressure or lack of proper guidance. It is no longer rare to see on the Internet a video about a group of teenagers bullying one student using cruel means such as slapping the face or burning the skin with cigarette ends. Such negative effects would far outweigh the benefits brought by good qualifications if schools continue to ignore the necessity of non-academic learning.

When it comes to the issue about the range of schools' responsibilities, some people may argue that, apart from academic study, schools should also teach students how to behave properly, but I may not agree with this opinion.

Admittedly, early education including moral education could serve to the development of the society. Children and pre-teen students may be impotent to judge right and wrong by themselves. If schools could offer them necessary education, they may accept those rules and criteria without too much rebellion. Then, when children grow older, there may exist fewer crimes since they have been reminded of that they should follow specific rules and laws. Nevertheless, there still exist more detriments caused by such behavior.
