When the vast improvement of modern transportation, exemplified by the ready availability of passenger aircrafts,eliminated the geographical barriers and allowed enthusiastic travelers unprecedented mobility to reach even the obscure corners of the world with tremendous ease, nobody had anticipated that the rising power of the Internet would undo all that. While some may argue that virtual tourism is an emerging form of leisure that will eventually marginalize our traditional conception of tourism, others hold, as always, an unwavering faith in the traditional way of travel.

Granted, the possibility of exploring the world recast in the vast cyberspace offers plenty of benefits that traditional tourism would pale in comparison. Travelers are liberated from the preoccupations with a set of errands prior to the trip that would easily drive anybody insane: booking air tickets in advance, checking out viable options of week-long accommodation, and drawing up a long shopping list, among many others. Better still, those keen travelers who are either financially challenged or who have a day-to-day jam-packed schedule are also spared from any concerns about constrained budgets or squeezing time from work. One may be appreciating the majestic beauty of the Buckingham Palace at one moment and hopping instantaneously to Hawaiian beach dotted with smoking hot girls in Bikkini the next.

One of the prominent features of irreversible trend of globalization is the ever growing of tourism. With strong curiosity of exotic culture, people travel abroad to expand their outlook and enrich their life experience. However, as there are more information accesses, some people choose to read books, watch films or search online instead of traveling. Actually, the first hand experience acquired from travel is irreplaceable.

Admittedly, other alternatives, such as books, films and Internet, help people to know the world at a much lower cost of time and money. As modern citizens, we simply need a computer or a mobile phone with access to Internet, and then the whole world is unveiled behind the screen. For instance, by typing the keyword “Highland and huntaway” in Google, there are numerous websites with detailed introduction, pictures and videos. In consideration of the expensive airplane tickets, hotels and restaurants, this is much more economical for people with limited budgets.
