范文1:

That millions die from starvation as a consequence of food scarcity is rapidly becoming a thing of the past, at least in much of the world. Globalization that sweeps the entire world by storm and cutting-edge transport technologies that is making headway have collectively made a diverse array of exotic food readily accessible to everyone: durians harvested in Thailand one day are up for grabs on British supermarket shelves the next; savoring the taste of top-notch Mexican coffee beans is no longer within the realm of imagination for many who have never ventured abroad. Despite the much-vaunted benefits, I am convinced that such ready availability offoreign foods does more harm than good.

Granted, the unimpeded flow of food products across national and regional borders does present worldwide consumers with a much broader range of options than was previously thought possible. However, such rosy picture is unlikely to last long enough beyond the immediate future. Fascination with unique food choices peculiar to a particular country rests on the assumption that such popularly sought-after foods often carry symbolic meanings that could be traced to early, if not ancient, times and still remain deeply cherished by the contemporary local foodies. Once people start to embrace and extol foreign imports, the popularity of traditional foods will inevitably decline – lapsing into obscurity in some worst-case scenarios. If this happens, part of the indigenous food culture will be undermined and possibly lost for good and foreigners will find no reason to sustain their interest and enthusiasm for products that have already lost their appeal in countries from which they originate in the first place.

范文2:

Walking in a huge supermarket, consumers can easily be attracted by shelves filled with imported foods. The development of trades has satisfied people’s curiosity that what people in foreign countries eat and how their food tastes. While enjoying the food diversity, we should by no means overlook the downsides brought by this trend.

Obviously, it is beneficial for people to have more options on food. Modern citizens are not satisfied with having enough to eat, but desire to have more delicious and healthier food. However, thanks to the restriction of climate and soil, some plants can only grow in certain territories, so local food may fail to meet the demand. The development of modern transportations, such as trains and flights, and trades make it possible for people to purchase food transported from places far away. For instance, it is lucky for residents in Beijing, an inland city in north China, to have tropical fruits from south China and seafood from coastal cities.
