Thanks to globalization and consequent blurring of national borders, such valuable resources as talents, technologies, and raw materials can flow effortlessly around the globe and are easily re-channeled to areas where they can be exploited most effectively. However, this is hardly the case in the redistribution of charity effort. While some may contend that the well-being of the local population shall tops the list of agenda for charity groups, others claim that such narrow-mindedness apparently goes against the grain of a world increasingly dominated by the vanishing national boundaries.

Those advocating the exclusive utilization of charity resources for the benefit of the needy in their own countries rightly argue that in this way, the resources could yield maximal benefits, despite suspicion of “protectionism”. A more comprehensive and accurate understanding of the particular domestic demographic segments that are struggling to make their ends meet could provide a reliable indicator of where the charity money should go and how it should be used. By contrast, on a global scale, are we still equally sure that the money that is supposed to go to those who are either terminally ill or embroiled in abject poverty will not fall in the hands of the corrupt officials in impoverished countries? Few with sensible knowledge of the political landscape of the Third World Nations would place bets on it.

The rapid development of mass medias makes it easier for people to access news and events, like disasters, wars, refugees,etc. Pictures and videos of victims never fail to arouse sympathy from people living in peaceful and prosperous environment. Hence, many would like to donate to charity organizations that help people in need on behalf of them. With large population in despair, aids should be given to those in greatest needs regardless their nationality.

Admittedly, it is human nature that people are more willing to help people with misfortune in their own country. At the sight of the sufferings of fellow countrymen, people usually assume due responsibility to provide helps, which is just like helping family members. Especially when supports from the government are insufficient, general public would respond to the needs through donation to trustworthy charity organizations with the common wish of disaster relief. It is charity organizations’ unshakable responsibility to collect funds from various sources and offer helps at the first time.
