Throughout the history, human race have never stopped imagining, which could be seen in science fictions or Hollywood blockbusters, while constantly advancing technical innovations have facilitated and will facilitate the further and further exploration of outer space, including to launch an interaction to the probably existing aliens one day.

Humans’ curiosity is one of the most imperative impetuses of technological boost. When our planet is flooded with giant population and we are inevitably confronted with the embarrassment of running out of resources on the earth, the research of may-be human fellows in other planets can definitely urge scientists to come up with more advanced technologies to combat the difficulties in the process of sending out messages to the outer space intelligence. These new technologies would return back to society and gradually or impressively boom the society, such as the application of solar energy, which would slow down the depletion of fossil fuels, and even it would be possible that scientists may discover some new places to supply sufficient resources or to re-settle-down for human.

The conception of extraterrestrial intelligence by science fiction writers is now stirring up much controversy in the scientific community. Though solid evidence is hard to come by, probabilistic calculations yield results that largely favour its existence. Given the sheer number of stars – numbered in trillions - in our universe, even the most stubborn opponents are likely to concede that alien creatures could stand a good chance of inhabiting one of the hospitable planets beyond our knowledge. Once that consensus has been struck, the question mark hangs over how mankind shall react.

Some enthusiasts are eager to make contact with the “unknown” alien intelligence by employing the state-of-the-art space technologies: launching space probes into the deep, dark outer space; gathering unidentified radio waves from the vast universe and running complicated analysis in an attempt to identify any discernible patterns. If successful, the ramifications could be profound. The discovery of living beings from an obscure planet possibly millions of light years away implies that we are no longer alone in the vast universe. Our quest for companionship – though of a slightly different sort – could finally be declared victorious after decades or even centuries of continuous effort. That is not all. Given the short history of human civilization – a million years is really a split second in astronomical terms, alien civilizations are highly likely to be much more advanced, far ahead of ours. Considering the scourge of environmental challenges, numerous fatal diseases, and technological limitations confronting us, extraterrestrials could very well serve as a reliable source of empowerment for humans to make a great leap forward in the future.
