Thanks to the stunning development of high technology and the widespread use of Internet, people nowadays can accomplish numerous daily tasks via Internet instead of travelling miles with often a long wait for certain services.

It is clear that fulfilling some tasks without seeing people face to face is highly efficient. In the past, if we need to buy something, we had to go to the shopping mall, but nowadays all can be done with a click on the keyboard and the goods will be delivered home, even at a lower price. And if we want to make a transaction from one bank account to another, we do not have to go directly to a bank or wait for a desperately long queue; instead we may comfortably make use of self-banking service at home provided access to the internet. Thus, efficiency of work and life has been both highly improved owing to the technological advances.

However, this does not mean that there are no negative sides of this common use of Internet. One of the major concerns is that people, particularly the young generation, might become alienated from their family members or friends in the real world, since they spend too much time surfing the Internet and can easily be addicted to some exciting online games or making friends in the virtual world. Also, many young people cannot resist the online commercials and gradually develop a habit of buying almost everything advertised on the shopping websites impulsively, which can often cause a waste of money and time. Besides, it is not difficult for certain vicious people to offer fake identify or false information when they chat with others on social networking sites due to inefficient supervision. Therefore, the security of personal information on the Internet can be a severe problem facing many netizens.

In summary, the trend that online self-services will become increasingly commonplace is irreversible, because they bring high efficiency to individual and boost the economic development of the society as well. However, we should always be aware of the downsides and be confident that solutions to these problems still rely on further development of new technology.
