Due to the exponential expansion of online social network users and its corresponding substantial influence on daily social life, a massive quantity of individuals fear that people may be immersed in this digital world and not present enough in the real world. However, though under such a conspicuous trend of the overwhelming replacement of face time with screen time, it is overstated that people are losing their ability of face-to-face communication.
 
The Internet and social networking technology have crept into every crevice of modern people’s daily life and work, and the time of people’s face-to-face communication has dwindled substantially. For instance, millions of people use a social network APP called Wechat in China both in daily life and at work. People tend to use emails, text messaging through mobile phones, and instant messaging to keep contacts rather than meeting face to face. Actually, these applications and social networking have been used widely because of the convenience and the efficiency of using them.

Thanks to the wide application of computers and cell phones, young Net-generation today is poles apart from old people. Undoubtedly, Internet provides more methods to connect with others than any medium did in the past. However, as we enjoy the convenient communication facilitated by computers and mobile phones, it is also worth examining its negative impacts on users’ face-to-face communication ability.

Admittedly, it seems that computers and mobile phones make it easier for people to keep in contact, especially those living in places far away. The technology of video call, once enjoyed by rich people in business, has become prevalent among the public in the last decade. Simply by dialing a series of number or logging on chatting software, such as MSN and Skype, people are able to see each other and talk as they sit face-to-face. The communication behind the screen enables people having difficulties in meeting in person to share information and maintain bonds.
