Nowadays higher education in most countries around the world requires tuition fee and other related expenses from the applicants and the fee is reported to be increasingly high in recent years. However there are still some places where students can enjoy free higher education and this essay is going to discuss both the benefits and drawbacks of this practice.

There is no denying that equal access to colleges or universities means equal opportunity for all the citizens who are willing to receive higher education regardless of his economic background. Therefore, the gap between the rich and poor will be effectively shrunk and with the average level of civilisation being enhanced, a more harmonious and stable society is likely to maintain its sustainable development. Besides, universities can afford to organise various scientific researches or other activities which can promote its academic capability, as they can receive sufficient financial support from the government.--certainly always assuming that the government should have abundant resources and affluent financial budget, and the population is better to be controlled in a relatively small scale.....
