People's opinions on whether individuals in the modern world get more independent or become increasingly reliant on each other differ sharply. Personally i find both views have good grounds and this essay is going to discuss both of them in detail.

Those who believe in today's society people gain more independence than ever claim that modern lifestyle should be responsible for this. First, modern people, particularly, those working women turn economically independent by actively playing significant roles in all walks of life. Their successful career life offers them more independence in terms of both finance and mind, compared with the old generation like their mothers and grandmothers who are often confined to housework and child raising.Besides, young people, who have gained sufficient skills on independent living and thinking before they graduate, choose to stay alone rather than live with their parents. By working hard and planning properly, they can easily build a family in metropolitan areas where privacy and liberty are greatly valued.

On the other hand, opponents argue that individuals are obliged to become more reliant on each other in terms of psychological and emotional needs. One typical example is that some dating programs have gained tremendous popularity in recent years among people of different ages, which demonstrates how eager people are to look for a sincere life partner or a genuine relationship these days. The surging number of users of social networking sites like Facebook, twitter also reflects that people like to be connected with those who have something in common. Moreover, nowadays the work in companies, particularly some large projects often require teamwork and cooperation of each member.Therefore, those who work together to get a task accomplished often find themselves closely linked with others. There is no denying that the more you are positively connected with your friends, colleagues and superiors, the higher possibility of your success in your career life will be.

In conclusion, i accept that to some extent people become more independent of each other in terms of economy and thinking, but i also have no doubt that as a member of a society, individuals are getting increasingly interdependent and this can often bring more efficiency and harmony, which is definitely a positive trend in the future.
