Nowadays, there is a growing tendency for university students to feel hard to cope with the social life after they graduate. So some people suggest that fulltime university students should be encouraged to take other activities besides academic activities. I think this is a very sensible idea.

To begin with, university students should be encouraged to take part in some practical activities. For example, university students can engage in some part-time jobs to accumulate some working experience. After university students finish their study, most of them will start their career life. Thus, having some working experience, the graduates can adapt to the career life easily.

In our contemporary era where the intensity of competition has grown to epic proportions, the society at large is calling for inter-disciplinary talents who are not only well-versed in a specific subject, but also well-rounded in character. As far as I am concerned, it would be more desirable for full-time students to prepare themselves to be a Jack-of-all-trades by getting exposure to diverse extracurricular activities, than merely immersing themselves in the monotony of academic pursuit.

More than anything else, human beings per se are social animals, and as such, we ascertain our personal values and testify to our sociability by proactively mingling with others. Therefore, focusing solely on studies to the exclusion of involving in social activities proves to defeat the very purpose of attending a respectable university. A prime example would be Steve Jobs, the former CEO of Apple, who would never have brought the personal computers to aesthetic excellence, had he not dropped out of school and attended workshops on typography.
