In recent years, there is much disagreement over who should take the responsibility for the healthy diet. Some people claim that it is the obligation of the government to make sure that citizens can have a healthy eating, while others believe that the responsibility for diet and health should be taken by individuals. I will discuss both points of view before giving my opinion.

People who insist that the government is obliged to assure citizens’ healthy diet put forward that, first of all, a ‘healthy’ society lies in the average fitness level of the general public. There is no doubt that to raise the health level of the common citizens, healthy diet places an essential role. Meanwhile, the government is liable to ensure the society to develop to be not only harmonious but also healthy. Consequently, the guide of the government on the healthy diet is inevitable. Besides, the government should take the duty also because the government has the authority on health issue. The health issue is a serious concern for a society, which involves various aspects, like food inspection, supervision on food sources, management on food providers, etc. Such tasks are hardly fulfilled by the individuals but take the efforts of the government.
