The rapid advance of technology, especially that of communication and transportation, has brought extraordinary convenience to people’s lives and great benefits to the modern society.Thanks to this, many people are now able to choose where to live and work.Some may argue that this phenomenon is negatively affecting the whole society.My view is that the flexible choice of workplace and living area is generally a promising trend.

Let us start by considering the tangible benefits of this status quo.Unlike people in the past, who had to work near their hometown due to limitations of transport and communication, many people today tend to opt for a job in another city and even in a foreign country. Home-based work has also been made possible recently by technological developments. All this means more job opportunities for young people.Modern technologies such as teleconference have facilitated the operation of many companies as well by saving them much time which would otherwise be spent on the roads.

Undeniably, the increasing availability of modern technology has changed people’s lifestyles in various aspects. The most outstanding one, probably, is the growth in the residential mobility and working flexibility, which are encouraged by the thriving of communication technology as well as more and more convenient transportation.

Obviously, modernists are blessed for this change presents them many benefits they never enjoyed before. First of all, it magnifies the likelihood to achieve personal success. When people are no longer confined in certain range of scope and can reach as far and freely as they can, the mobility of human activities is ensured, which, to a great extent, contributes to the utmost utilization of one’s potentials and skills. In simple words, with residential mobility and working flexibility, one is more capable of working in a place where or in a way by which one can fully exert his or her intelligence. Also, this flexible way of working and living helps build up a more well-being society. It is so because when the population mobility usually comes up with enlarged consumption demands, which will promote the development of the economy and boost the interaction and cooperation between districts.
