Nowadays, there is much disagreement about the necessity of the government funding on the retrieval of minority language. Some people deem it the obligation of the government to do so while others regard it as a waste of money. I will discuss both points of view before giving my own opinion.

People who support the former point of view put forward that first of all, the existence of a language is much more meaningful than simply a means of communication. Without the language, other forms of culture are hardly ensured. In other words, there is a vital connection between a language and the cultural identity of the people who speak it. In this sense, the money spent on protecting minority language from dying out is worthwhile as the cultural diversity is being reinforced, which deserves the effort of the government. Besides, the financial grant to save the minority language is a beneficial practice for the government. As we know, the government shoulders great social responsibilities, among which maintaining the cohesion of communities is by all means an issue no government can take lightly. However, if a language disappears due to the indifference attitude of the government, it will arouse the resentment of the community where people used the language. Consequently, the sense of cohesion is lost, which is an extremely detrimental fact for a society.

One of the most pressing issues facing human beings is the looming distinction of some minority languages.The matter of whether governments should finance efforts to protect these endangered languages has raised public debate.My view is that a reasonable proportion of government spending should go directly to this front.

Some people hold that the expenditure on such protection is worthwhile and undisputable.With good reason, linguistic diversity, which can be partly attributed to the existence of minority languages, is believed to have contributed greatly to social development, for plenty of conventional wisdom originates from languages, be they written or oral. In addition, like well-established languages such as English and French, those less prevalent ones also have far-reaching influence on people speaking them, who deserve a right to pass on their culture from generation to generation.
