Nowadays, there is an obvious increase in the living standard, which, however, benefits the urban areas much more than the rural areas. People are worried about the possible problems caused by the phenomenon. After a careful think, I think there are at least two problems that might be generated by the issue.

The first problem, which has happened in many countries, is the flooding of rural residents into cities. The problem occurs easily because the farmers are also aware of the high standard of living in urban areas like the wide range of facilities, the easy access to consumer goods and the provision of various services. Doubtlessly, the countryside people expect to taste the fruits of the rising living standard. So they eagerly flood into cities.

While there is almost a universal consensus that we have never had it so good in terms of modern living standards, the benefits seem to be solely favoring the urban dwellers, at the expense of their rural counterparts. The status quo, left unattended, could pose undesirable economic and social problems. Fortunately, certain preemptive measures can be proposed to prevent them from happening before it is too late.

More than anything else, the overwhelmingly more agreeable and convenient city life is a powerful black hole to drain the resources from rural areas. The influx of rural population on such grand scale usually means a concurrent outflow of financial resources, employment opportunities and intellectual talents from the countryside, which in turn depletes rural riches and aggravates the disparity in economic development.

Considerable regional differences almost always end up in social unrest and chaos, as the underprivileged face prohibitively high property prices, meagre wages and occasional discrimination from locals who felt their living space somewhat trespassed. Over time, social inequality could brew antagonism and hostility among communities, making the otherwise harmonious society unstable.
