Nowadays, there is a growing tendency for people to use social networking sites to extend or maintain their relationships, which is ensured by the daily basis use of computers and mobile phones. However, it is suggested that the increased popularity of social networking sites exert negative effects on both individuals and the society. Personally, I deem it a sensible idea.

To individuals, though SNA quickens and widens their ways of communication, they are stressed by massive information. No matter where and when, people are seen to lower their head to be busy at reading and responding the messages on the mobiles. Even working on mobiles or computers to deal with network relationships distracts people a lot from dealing with their routine work and regular bonds. Doubtlessly, it adds the pressure to people’s normal life. One follow-up problem is that the access to SNS impacts heavily on the health of individual health. People are likely to suffer anxiety and fatigue after a long time of cyber activities, sitting in front of a computer or playing with a hand-phone. It is reported that over 60% of people are having health problems of various degrees owing to the use of SNS.

Technological advances have made it much easier for people to acquire information and communicate with each other, featured by the use of socail websites. This new method of communication, however, is sometimes considered to be negatively impacting individuals and the society as a whole. My view is that the drawbacks of these sites are eclipsed by their dramatic benefits.

A major merit of social networking sites is the resulting change in our way of information acquisition. Gone are the days when newspapers and televisions were the dominant way of knowing the major events happening around the globe. With the availability of the Internet, we can now enjoy instant access to breaking news and reports at home and abroad on social media. Social websites, such as Facebook and Twitter, without doubt, have greatly facilitated our interaction with the outside world.
