In contemporary society, one of the most concerned problems is that the developments of urban and rural areas are not in the same pace. Overall, this is a negative trend for both the city and the countryside. Although this has brought about a series of relevant problems, it is never too late to figure out how to solve it. 

The issue of the contrast between urban and rural areas brought by the improvement of living standard has brought more drawbacks than one. From the angle of the countryside, an increasing number of young adults may expect a more modern life in cities. Thus, a large proportion of main labor force will spill into cities for further development. Unfortunately, heavy burden of farming work now depends on aged population, and so does the education of children. This is extremely harmful for children’s development and changes of rural lifestyle because the old generation is always in charge without appropriate male adults at home. When it comes to the situation in cities, the consequence is also pessimistic. Under such a condition, the population in cities is booming, resulting in serious problems in housing, traffic and medical care. Additionally, a general discrimination toward rural people is another problem which may cause conflicts between urban and rural men. 

Notably, practical solutions can be carried out in these ways. Initially, the government is the one to take the responsibility. Some policies should be implemented to ensure a safe and guaranteed working environment for those “rural workers”. Housing and medical insurance are two important issues. Besides, setting up more compulsory schools is necessary for those “left-alone” children. From the perspective of citizens, urban residents should have more understanding toward rural immigrants, and thus eliminate discrimination. 

From an overall view, this leads to more negative impact on the development of a whole country. Fortunately, human beings still have chances to prevent the worst consequence from happening by combining the efforts of the government and residents in both cities and the countryside.
