雅思写作范文1:

Recently, there are increasing concerns about juvenile delinquency, which has resulted in equivalent, even more serious, effects on the society. While the nature of teenage crimes is obviously different from crimes committed by adults. Under such a background, the point that teenagers should be punished in the same way as adults if they commit serious crimes cannot meet my argument, and the supporting materials will be listed in the following passage.

The most significant nature of teenage crimes is that the responsibility of doing something wrong cannot be merely attributed to teenagers themselves. That is to say their family environment, school education and even influence from the media should also be taken into account when judging what teenagers have done. Young students may drop out of school and end up in the street just because of poverty, family violence or suffering from discrimination from teachers and classmates. Similarly, advertisers should take part of the responsibility by misleading adolescents to smoke or drink. From this sense, teenagers’ faults are also the faults of their supervisors so that their punishment cannot be the same.

Another supporting argument is that most underaged lawbreakers are immature, and cannot realize how serious consequences their behaviors may lead to. According to numerous interviews on teen-criminals in the jail, over ninety per cent of them showed deep regrets on what they had done, and they all admitted that they really did not have any idea about what would happen next. By this I mean, their behaviors may cause the same amount of damage as adult criminals, but most of them did such things unconsciously, unwillingly or impulsively. This is an important factor in the measurement of penalty.

Last but not least, the punishment itself should be different, because educating or correcting, instead of punishing, is the reason why teenagers are put into prison, or relevant institutions. The majority of juvenile crimes are not that serious for death or permanent penalties, which means most young wrongdoers deserve a second chance to be back into a normal life. Therefore, proper education and job training should be the aim of institutions like juvenile prisons. This is also significant for preventing them to be recidivists after being set free.

Even though it seems to be reasonable that teenage wrongdoers should be punished as severely as adults, at least for the sake of victims, I still insist on my point that the nature of teenage crimes is different and judges should take more factors into consideration when dealing with cases of juvenile delinquency.
