雅思写作范文1:
Geographical isolation breeds linguistic diversity, but globalization buries it. From the view of today, globalization is a mainstream for future development. Under such a trend, the ever decreasing linguistic diversity reveals more positive sides than negative sides for economic globalization and academic or cultural exchange.
The first merit to be mentioned is that the increasingly prosperous international trade is resulted from the unification of different languages. In the past, trading among countries was largely obstructed by different languages. Linguistic contrast leads to different lifestyles and consuming habits. Thus, foreign products were hard to be sold not only because of conflicts during transaction but also owing to the fact that domestic market cannot accept foreign styles. When it comes to the world today, almost everyone is familiar with English and western lifestyle, even a large number of minor languages have disappeared because youngsters prefer speaking English. A major reason is economic pressure. It is understood that, for minor communities in countries supported by tourism, mastering English equals to mastering a profitable living style. Therefore, international trade can be done much more efficiently by several languages, like English, Spanish and France.
More significantly, as for cultural and academic interaction, young people can benefit most from several languages dominating the world. Concerning oversea traveling, language is no longer the barrier from traveling to new countries. Tourists can travel around almost everywhere without barriers if they can speak English. This, altogether with the development of airplanes, results in the prevalence of international tourism. Referring to international education, students have a much wider range of choices for their education because most countries have set up courses by English.
Admittedly, the counterargument also shows certain degree of reasonability. Linguistic diversity marks cultural diversity and diverse thinking modes. Countries like the USA are based on a mixture of different minds for better development. If several major languages dominate the world step by step, innovative thoughts will be less and unique cultural heritages will lose. However, what propels the world forward is not traditional heritage, but new ideas brought by advanced technology and influential cultures. This will definitely contribute to a decline in insignificant languages.
By combining both sides together, it is obvious for me that the benefits of major languages dominating the world outweigh its drawbacks to a large extent. Minor cultures and languages are now being protected by linguists and other relevant scientists, which guarantees the world is heading toward a better civilization together with the preservation of valuable traditions.
