雅思写作范文1:
Today, shoppers go shopping concerning not only the products themselves, but also their brands. It seems that clothes are not just for warm and beauty, and cars are not simply for traveling. They all represent certain identities or classes. Under such a background, we may infer the main reason causing it, which is the influence of the mass media. Overall, this is a negative trend for consumers, especially those who are not wealthy.
Referring to the causes to this issue, I am convinced that advertisers are the first to blame. As is known to all that almost every high-end brand of bags, clothes and cars puts brand marketing as the core of their budgets. That is to say, the greatest proportion, sometimes over 80%, of the cost is spent on advertising. Why? What these brands attract consumers is definitely not the practical function of those products, but their hidden value, which means brands offer you certain degree of fame or jealousy from others by wearing their clothes, carrying their bags and driving their cars. This is why people are crazy about famous brands, for showing off, and keep changing or updating still-usable ones when their social status is even slightly promoted.
This tendency has definitely brought more drawbacks than one. The most direct one is that prices go up, together with profits for manufacturers. Customers today keep purchasing things whose cost of raw materials only accounts for around two to five per cent of their retailing prices. Their money is mostly spent on creating some illusionary images that maintain a stupid sense of superiority. If this were to be generally accepted by everyone someday, the result would have to be that no one put quality or designing, the two ingredients for a product, in the first place. What’s worse, those people, who are not wealthy enough, but desire a life of higher social classes, will pursue high-end brands beyond their reach at the price of anything, anything you can imagine. Debts, crimes, suicides and tragedies happen subsequently.
To reach a conclusion, the main reason for this topic can be attributed to the fact that, in order to increase their profits, advertisers, the true fashion-designers, persuade customers to purchase unnecessary goods for fame. From an overall view, this leads to more negative impacts on consumers, small or middle manufacturers and even the bigger picture of market.
