Opinions vary as to what drug companies should be responsible for, with some people considering profit-making as their top priority and others claiming that they should help poorer nations. I would agree with the former.

There are justifications for pharmaceutical companies providing assistance to poorer regions by, for example, researching urgently-needed medicines for them. People in areas such as Africa are beset with serious diseases such as malaria,which causes countless deaths on a daily basis. Drug companies are socially and ethically responsible to supply affordable cures to these places so that local inhabitants could live a longer and less miserable life. At the same time, companies can boost publicity by engaging in charitable activities. Their image can be improved, attracting more investment and customers. However, even though pharmaceutical companies would deliver benefits to both themselves and society if they spent money researching medicines for lesser developed countries, this could not happen without profits as the basis.
