It is widely known that medical research is crucial for curing diseases and improving public health, but this practice often takes a long time and involves huge investments, so the topic that who should pay for the research is highly debatable. In my view, while I believe that both businesses and governments should be responsible for funding medical research, individuals should not be required to do so directly.

To begin with, it is reasonable to require companies especially large pharmaceutical corporations to invest in researching new drugs and treatments. Those giants in medical industry like Johnson $ Johnson or Bayer can make billions of money by supplying medicines every year, which means they not only have adequate funds for research, but also have an obligation to take corporate social responsibilities by developing new drugs for those patients in need. Otherwise it would be unfair if they only gain a great deal of interests from the society but do nothing to pay back.
