Debates have persisted as to which period of life is more valuable —— the old age or the young age. People from different cultures and backgrounds hold divergent attitudes. Admittedly, there are convincing arguments on both sides.

Advocates of individuals’ attaching more importance to their old age argue that people at this period, having experienced and endured all the hardships of life, can be sufficiently experienced and well knowledged to tackle all problems appearing in their lives actively and wisely, which means that it is easier for them to obtain a sense of achievement and self-identity. Moreover, people can always accumulate some wealth as well as master professional skills when they get old. Under the circumstances, the public will show a certain amount of respect and recognition to them.
