The column chart depicts the number of four categories of pupils in the United Kingdom in the years 1980, 1990 and 2005. The data recorded on the vertical axis is measured in ' thousands’ and the horizontal in the years, whether male or female, and lastly, if full or part-time learners.

Overall, an upward trend was recorded in all groupings except one, males in part-time study which dipped. Furthermore, in 2005 these figures rose dramatically, outpacing recorded growth with more female students at the survey's end.
