It is a common practice in many countries the policemen on duty carry guns with them.However, many people claim that this would cause more crimes in the society.

In countries like America, police force like sheriffs are required to carry gun by law and this practice has obvious advantages. First, policemen with guns can have a deterrent effect on potential law offenders and prevent them from committing crimes, particularly in areas with poor security conditions. Second, when confronting with criminals who are often equipped with deadly weapons like daggers or guns, armed policemen are in a better position to protect innocent civilians and defend themselves as well, therefore avoiding unnecessary sacrifices. On the contrary, when a policemen with bare hands or very limited equipment fights with a gangster or even a band of outlaws, he is more likely to get injured or even killed.

However, the police armed with weapons may have a negative impact on public security. The main concern is abuse of guns and the loopholes of gun control. Sometimes it is too easy for those who are legally allowed to carry guns to use them, causing too many death and panic among the public. Besides, the easy access to ammunitions for policemen can be taken advantage of by criminals. For example, those 。。。。
