The data in the table present the development of high speed railway in three countries in 1990 and 2010 with prediction for 2020.

In 1990, Japan owned 1200 km of high speed tram track, which was nearly double that in France (700km). In sharp contrast, there was no such tram in China then.

However, things changed dramatically when it came to 2010. China built high speed railways at the length of 5800km, whereas the figures in Japan (2500km) and France (2600km) were no longer than a half of Chinese in spite of obvious increases in their respective country. Another character worth of mentioning in this year is that France overtook Japan.
