Nowadays in China and many other places in the world, it is not rare to see overweight children in the street, chewing snacks or drinking sweetened beverage. Some blame the advertisements for junk food, hence calling for ban on such commercials just like ban on smoking, a killing factor for respiratory diseases such as lung cancer. I totally agree with the proposal.

The reasons for supporting the restriction of junk food marketing are amounting. In order to promote sales, advertisements lure kids and adults as well into unhealthy food, which is high in salt, sugar and fat, hence imposing more risk of obesity, diabetes and heart diseases on the regular eaters. When the regular eaters are children, the damage would be more serious. They are lack of health consciousness and prone to the nice tastes of snacks, confectionery or chocolate which are responsible for childhood overweight and obesity and decreased intake of healthy meals. Therefore, it is these advertisements aimed at children that should be first phased out from TV children programmes at peak view time.

However, some people oppose prohibition of advertising junk food. They believe that companies and restaurants have their every right to marketing their products and compete with others in the free market, which is beneficial for all of us. They also argue that it is the customers who make their purchase choice and develop their own unhealthy eating habits, so the advertising should not to blame. But these arguments do not sound convincing because when people especially children are exposed to tempting advertisement of food, they tend to develop the desire for that product rather than questioning....
